You have survived or prepared for newborn phase but what now? Next up in my “Baby Must Have Items” series is 3-6 month must haves! This was such a fun age as they are starting to look more like a developed baby and are capable of doing more. With this age, comes more items that are needed. You will likely still be using most items from my Newborn must haves post but there are some new items I recommend having for this age!
If you are entering this stage, you might be filling up your Amazon cart (I did this every single night when feeding Kennadi) with all kinds of toys and necessities. If you are pregnant, hopefully this gives you a nice list of items to add to your baby registry!

What 3-6 Month Must Haves do I Really Need?
The house won’t start overfilling quite yet.. but you are on your way there! I have narrowed it down to truly only include the must have items. Could you get by without these, yes most likely. However, it will make your life so much easier! And who doesn’t love easy as a parent?!

By 3 months of age, you will want to have a fun tummy time play mat. I loved the Fisher Price one the best. The light up piano was perfect for tummy time and I loved the arch for her to practice grabbing toys while she was laying on her back.
- High Contrast Toys
You don’t need to go overboard but make sure you have a few high contrast toys/books/cards. Not only is great for entertaining your baby, they are proven to help developmentally. I personally liked this tummy time contrast mirror and these soft books. .
- Swaddles
Once your baby starts to roll over, you will have to un-swaddle their arms. This wasn’t an issue for us at night as Kennadi was still strapped into the SNOO. However, she didn’t nap in the SNOO during the day so we had to figure out what swaddle to use next. We tested several brands and our favorite for this age was the Love to Dream transitional swaddle. We also used the Happiest Baby Sleepea Sack for some naps and at night.
I couldn’t wait for Kennadi to start using this! This tub offers plenty of support and allows water and soap to be rinsed easily. She loved lounging on this tub! Her favorite part was getting to kick her legs like crazy.
This was also on my newborn essentials list but I had to include it here too! We started using it at 3 months but got so much use from 3-6 months. Once we bought this floor seat, Kennadi could sit up whenever we needed to set her down. She also loved playing with the toy attachments.

- Pacifier & Clip
Around 4 months, we started introducing Kennadi to different pacifiers. She continued to use the Wub a Nub at night but during the day and whenever we left the house, we had her start using Ryan & Rose and Mam pacifiers. The Ryan & Rose pacifiers are amazing because they are a 2 in 1 pacifier and teether! Switching to these pacifiers meant she needed pacifier clips! You can’t find any ones cuter than Ryan & Rose!
Every baby gets teeth at different ages (Kennadi got her first two teeth at six months) but they will be drooling long before then! Bazzle Baby makes the best drool bibs. They don’t rub up onto baby’s face and I love the added teething feature at the tip of the bibs
- Teething Toys
Solution for the drool and irritated gums? Lots of teething toys! Can’t really go wrong with any but Kennadi’s top two favorites were Sophie and Mombella mushroom. Sophie la Giraffe is easy to hold and the Mombella mushroom allows baby to hold it and not drop it as their hand is under the mushroom, pretty neat! I would also have some teething rings that are meant to throw in the fridge or freezer; the cold can help soothe sore gums.
We chose to start giving Kennadi solids at 4 months. We stuck to oatmeal for a while before introducing purees. Even if you don’t start as early, most pediatricians will recommend 6 months so it is helpful to have these in the kitchen! I liked the munchkin bowls and spoons and my husband liked these metal spoons.
These were a lifesaver! Her fingernails were growing like crazy and we had cut her skin every time we tried the nail clippers. This electric baby nail file is fool proof and you are unable to hurt them with it! Seriously one of the best baby items of all time!
11. Tush Swiper
This is one of my most loved items! The neatest invention for diaper paste. It twists right on to the diaper paste and you can just swipe it right onto baby’s bottom instead of having to use your hands or a bum brush.

3-6 Month Must Haves: Can Go With or Without
We personally had each of these items and loved all of them. I added them because I do believe they were really helpful during these three months but I know parents could get by without them if you are trying to stick to the necessities!
If your baby is taking a bottle, this portable warmer is life changing! We were out an about a lot during these 3 months and it was amazing to have a portable bottle warmer. We never had to worry about getting hot water!
2. Pool Float
I included this in case it will be warm when your baby is tis age. I took Kennadi in the pool for the first time at 4 months and this pool float was amazing! It kept her shaded and she was comfortable in it.
This was just another option to keep Kennadi entertained. I love that it allowed her to be upright and she loved to push it and walk around with it.
4. Toys
I wanted to include a few more favorite toys she loved during this age!
